Pongfugee

I promised some noob-like source codes to use in GameMaker so it's time to show you the first one. Ladies and gentlemen, please give a warm welcome to Pongfugee!
Pongfugee is a stupid mini-game which can be made in two boring evenings. Maybe even one if you know what do you want to achieve. Its beginnings may be found in a random Pong tutorial I found on the web. I wanted to try a different approach in designing something new in GameMaker so I decided to do sth easy. After completing the simplest form of Pong I decided to alter it a bit. A quick look at the news and I already knew what should be the topic of the game - refugees!

Whether you like it or not, refugees are invading Europe. The citizens of the old continent fear that among the people escaping from war maybe some actual terrorists gaining advantage of this situation. If it's true, we shouldn't be surprised that the European Union doesn't want the refugees aboard. And at the same time, ISIS will do everything to get them through the Europe's border.

The refugees are like a ball in Pong which nobody wants to have. And by saying nobody I mean EU and ISIS. Who will win this battle?

As you can see, the game is as stupid as the death of Ms Vickers in Prometheus. But it has some learning tips for those who are just starting their adventure with GameMaker. What kind of tips you ask? Here are some features of the game:

  • the ball (alias refugees) increases its speed every time it touches the bat
  • the counters overhead let you keep track on the number of points both sides have scored
  • before you start moving you can see a list of usable keys - the list dissapears as soon as you press any key
  • to limit the time of the game I added a healthbar near the lower border - whoever scores as many times to push his color to the end wins
So, can this lousy experiment of mine may be of use to somebody? I doubt it. But if you dare to think different, you can find the source code (and the game itself) under the links below.
